I have 6 cats, 5 of which are indoor/outdoor cats. (The sixth has the same access to the outdoors through a cat flap but doesn't really appear to have any desire to go outside.) So, as you can imagine, buying Frontline every month is not financially feasible.
I found some BioSpot at PetSmart and purchased it, and it's worked really well on my cats. I used it on half my cats while I used Hartz on the other half. No adverse reactions to either, but I have pulled ticks off of one of the Hartz cats, so we're applying BioSpot to everyone this month.
A word of caution, though. I've researched this product quite a bit, and it seems like it does cause an adverse reaction in some animals. If you decide to try it on your pet, watch him or her the rest of the day to be sure there's no reaction.
IF YOU SUSPECT YOUR PET IS HAVING AN ADVERSE REACTION TO A FLEA PRODUCT:
1. BATHE YOUR PET WITH MILD SOAP AND RINSE WITH LARGE AMOUNTS OF WATER.
2. IF SIGNS CONTINUE, CONSULT A VETERINARIAN IMMEDIATELY.
I have no idea how often a cat has a reaction, but if I'd known about there even being a possibility, I honestly don't know if I would have tried. It worked well with our kitties, but please be aware that there is the possibility of a bad reaction.
(BTW, I'm a little embarassed about having six cats. But that's what happens when 2 cat lovers get married!)
